Celebrating Caregiver Awareness Month 2022

news image

The month of May marks Family Caregiver Awareness Month!  Each year, caregiver support organizations across Canada celebrate this important month with our Caregiver Aware 2022 campaign. This year, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Ontario join together in celebrating, acknowledging, and supporting family caregivers throughout the month.

Recent research from the University of Alberta reveals that family caregivers contribute $97.1 billion to the Canadian Care Economy. In British Columbia alone, 26.5% of our population is made up of caregivers, who provide an annual economic value of $14.7 billion!

Family Caregivers of BC invites you to celebrate Caregiver Awareness Month with us. This year, the Caregiver Aware Campaign is focusing on four key  themes:  Work and Care, Financial Impacts of CaregivingCaregivers as Partners in Care, and Young Caregivers. Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing resources and raising awareness nationally about these important topics.

Are you a caregiver? Do you know someone who is? Please help to make some noise and increase awareness of unpaid family and friend caregivers. Reach out to your networks—family, friends, neighbours and workplaces—through email and social networks. Explore resources yourself and pass them on. Many caregivers don’t self-identify, and many don’t realize that there are resources and supports available. Subscribe to our eNews to receive weekly campaign updates in May. You can also use the hashtag #caregiveraware2022 when posting and raising awareness.

If you or someone you know could use a friendly ear and help finding resources, call our toll-free BC Caregiver Support Line Monday to Friday, 1-877-520-3267.
